Bearded Dragon. GOING ON VACATION. NEED INFORMATION!?

Written on December 31, 2009. Written by admin.

I’m going to mexico for a week, and I have a bearded dragon.

What should i do?!?!

how do i make sure he will be okay for that week!!!

Unfortunately you cannot leave your bearded dragon alone for a whole week – they just have too high a maintenance requirement.

It needs fresh veg and bugs at least every other day.

They can’t go a week without a source of fresh water..

A bulb could break, the uv could go, there could be a power cut.

If you go into a reptile shop – most places will take reptiles in while you go on holiday for £3 or so per day.

You have to make sure they have safe envirnments for them though, my local places uses woodchip substrate which would most certainly not be suitable.

I don’t know how much they charge in the US.

Another alternative would be a friend or relative taking him in or going to your house…

Please, do not leave him for a week.

Best tip is to check with your local pet stores to see if they would board your beardy for you. Bearded dragons need special environment and food conditions, unless a house sitter (friend or relative) knows about bearded dragons, it’s probably not a good idea to have them check on it. The pet store would be your best bet.

Get a baby sitter for him. Or you can feed him/her a lot of superworms! (Or what ever he/she eats) But I’m warning you to keep the tempature the same in the house, because whn I came back at 11:00 pm from Texas to Virginia my beardies cage was 60! I’d get a timer if you don’t have one. (For your light) But I highly recommend getting a sitter for him/her. (I went away for only three days) IF YOU GO KEEP THE TEMPATURE THE SAME IN YOUR HOUSE AND GET A TIMER FOR YOU LIGHT!!!!

bearded dragons can go, when forced to, about 5-6 days without food or water.
so like when i go away for the weekend, i just feed him a little extra before i leave. but for a week or more, i get my neighbors to come in and feed him. I teach them how to do it and leave out the food, supplies and instructions that i typed up. everything always turns out fine. bearded dragons are hardy animals. =)
I also put all the lights on timers, so that my neighbors only have to come once every other day to feed him, instead of 2 times a day to turn the lights on/off.
if you are going away for a week, i would stock up on supplies, and ask your neighbor to do it for you. but if they are not the type of people who generally like the "insect meal worm" suff, then i make it easier for them by telling them that they only have to come every other day.

Im sure ur beadie will be fine! so good luck and have a good trip!
